About Us

There has a been an opticians in Bedale for over 40 years. Martin Ruddy first set up his opticians in rooms above Mills chemist on the high street, it then moved to our present location a few years later. 

Martin Ruddy retired from the practice and sold it to Paul Rutter in 1997. Since then the practice has steadily grown and now  Paul works full time in Bedale.

Paul qualified as an optometrist in 1989, and since then has worked in a variety of clinical settings including the high street and hospitals.

As well as examining eyes, dispensing of spectacles and the fitting of contact lenses,Paul works with the Primary Care Trust to provide free low vision aids for the partially sighted.He is also a "locally enhanced scheme "accredited optometrist,and regularly sees patients that have been referred by local GP'sand other opticians.
